When you are ready, you will change into appropriate attire. This means dry swimwear or shorts and a top for men, and dry swimwear or shorts and a sports bra for women. To protect your extremities, we provide you with warm socks and footwear, gloves, a headband to cover your ears, and a mask to cover your mouth and nose. This is important because the air in the chamber is very dry, and the mask warms it slightly before you inhale.
Our studio uses a modern vortex cooling system with multiple chambers. You first step into a pre-chamber, typically set to around -60 °C, for about 30 seconds. This helps your body begin to acclimatise. Then, you move into the main chamber, which is maintained at a constant -110 °C.
The sensation is one of intense, immediate cold on the surface of your skin, but because the air has virtually zero humidity, it is not the biting, damp cold you might associate with a winter's day.
